Hilton Hotels

A project that took myself and my team into the depths of London, Amsterdam and Dubai to create content for one of Britain’s most iconic brands. As the teams Technical Director, I was responsible for making sure the crew and equipment made it to set, no matter where in the world it was, as well as oversee the on-site management of the team, right through to post-production.

Dubai • Amsterdam • London

The objective was to capture a series of interviews with staff from throughout the EMEA region talking about their experiences on the Graduate Recruitment scheme. This meant coordinating shoots in four locations: Watford, London, Amsterdam and Dubai. The technical coordination for each location presented unique challenges:

London: driving a van filled with equipment into Central London during rush hour meant clever planning for parking, efficient unloading and ensuring the safety of the kit and crew.

Amsterdam: getting all the kit and crew from the UK to Amsterdam on a budget was a challenge. The best solution was to road trip our way to Amsterdam; packing plug socket adapters was key!

Dubai: driving wasn’t an option, so curating a kit list to fly out to the Gulf was critical, we were limited on weight limits so every KG counted.

The Podcasts

Every destination required a podcast episode to be produced on-site. Each podcast was to be produced in a setting that showcased the hotel we were filming in, so working with the client and Director to pick a suitable but practical location was essential. Every environment presented itself with challenges to overcome, from preventing the intense summer sun over-exposing the image to working around EU-rated plug sockets with UK equipment.

We only had access to each hotel for a single day, and not being able to complete a physical site-visit prior to production, the planning process was vitally important.

The Interviews

Beyond a podcast, each location saw us produce multiple single-person interviews. Navigating a tight schedule to produce 3-5 interviews was a technical challenge that saw us navigating these challenges as a team.

Picking the right backdrop for each interview was key, as it was important to showcase each stunning hotel we filmed in. Working closely with both Director and Client, we were able to curate a huge number of interviews at each location.
